Since 1 October 2026, 00:00, the TollRo platform runs in operational mode. From today, trucks over 3.5 t pay for Romania’s national roads, expressways and motorways per kilometre. Vignettes, route tickets and the bridge toll can only be bought through the new system.
The first day did not go smoothly. Below: what happened, what CNAIR says about fines, what to do with the app and how to recalculate your trip prices.
TollRo on your route, in seconds
Enter any route, within Romania or international, and see TollRo on the Romanian kilometres, plus the other tolls, fuel and time.
What happened on day one
Right after the launch, the platform faced a very high number of users and transactions. CNAIR reported two problems:
- Blocked emails: Gmail and Yahoo stopped part of the messages sent by etoll.ro (confirmations, documents, notifications) because of the large volume sent at once.
- Payments: technical problems in the link between the platform and the payment processor affected the authorisation and confirmation of transactions.
No fines until the problems are fixed
CNAIR announced that, under the rules (Art. 9(4)), vehicles that could not buy TollRo from 1 October, 00:00, are not recorded as unpaid until the platform’s technical problems are fixed. In other words, no penalties apply while the system is not working normally.
This does not mean TollRo is postponed: the charge is due from today. Buy the route ticket or set up distance-based payment as soon as the platform lets you.
The TollRo app: download it again and create a new account
With the switch to the final version, CNAIR asked everyone who used the app during the test phase to download or update the TollRo app again and create a new account. Use the same email address as in the test phase, then enter the company details and register the vehicles, tractors and trailers again.
CNAIR’s messages about carrying over test-phase data contradicted each other in recent days. If your vehicles are missing from your account, check on etoll.ro and add them again.
Pay only through the official channels
CNAIR warns: do not make bank transfers directly to CNAIR accounts for the vignette, route ticket or TollRo. Such payments do not show up in the system and do not give you the right to drive. The official channels:
- the etoll.ro portal (account, vehicles, route ticket, e-wallet);
- the TollRo app for iOS and Android;
- CNAIR points of sale and border crossings;
- authorised distributors.
RouteCalc does not sell tickets or collect the charge: it shows you what TollRo costs on each trip.

How many km on motorways and how many on national roads?
That decides what you pay. RouteCalc splits them on the actual route and calculates TollRo for your truck.
What to do with your trip prices today
Every trip through Romania has a new cost from today, which depends on how many kilometres run on motorways and how many on national roads. Old prices, calculated with the vignette, are no longer right.
- Trips within Romania: TollRo on the actual route, by road type, truck weight and EURO class.
- International trips: TollRo on the Romanian part, together with the other countries’ tolls.
- Many trips at once: upload one Excel file with all your routes to RouteCalc and get back a single file with TollRo, the other tolls, distance, time and fuel for each.
All amounts in RouteCalc are excl. VAT, ready for your quote. The first calculations are free, no card needed.
