TollRo since 1 October: pay per route, not per period

Since 1 October 2026, 00:00, trucks over 3.5 t pay TollRo per kilometre in Romania instead of a vignette for a period. Until European toll service providers are connected, the team pays — not an onboard unit: dispatch or the driver buys or records each trip.

The launch was not smooth: on the first day there were problems with e-mails and payments. According to CNAIR, vehicles that could not buy TollRo because of this are not recorded as unpaid until the problems are fixed. More: TollRo has started: what happened on day one.

There are two ways to pay.

1. Route ticket

Paid in advance for a route declared before the trip. Available on the etoll.ro portal, in the TollRo app, at CNAIR sales points and at border crossings. This is the manual process many dispatch teams start with.

2. Pay per distance in the TollRo app

The trip is recorded in CNAIR's free TollRo app (iOS and Android) and paid from the electronic wallet. You manage the account, vehicles and wallet on the etoll.ro portal. If you used the app during the test phase, CNAIR asks you to download or update it again and create a new account with the same e-mail address.

Pay only through the official channels. CNAIR warns against bank transfers directly to its accounts: such payments do not show up in the system.

Payment through European toll service providers (EETS / SETRE) is announced by CNAIR for 15 January 2027. Until then, someone still has to buy the route or record it in the app.

For trucks over 3.5 t, a vignette bought in the old system was valid only until 1 October. The unused period is not refunded automatically; you need a written request to CNAIR.

What should not stay manual is the cost
